Unemployment benefits such as unemployment insurance is needed with so many Americans losing their jobs or having their unemployment claims turned down without the hope of the unemployment extension. Many of the unemployed can no longer pay their house payments and may soon lose their homes in foreclosure.
With millions of people unemployed and so few jobs available the hardest hit are the over 50 year olds. Many of these people have worked 20 or 30 years with never using unemployment. Now they want to work but can’t find a job even after sometimes applying for thousands of different jobs. Many times they are turned down for being overqualified but they probably are being turned down because they are thought of as being too old. With so many applicants to choose from the few jobs that are available are being given first to those that are younger.
With the losses in the stock market and investments in the last couple of years many of these older workers have seen their retirement funds dwindle or completely disappear. Now with their unemployment benefits and unemployment insurance ending many of them will be losing their homes to foreclosure if they haven’t already. This is when the government needs to step in with the unemployment extension and give the unemployed some hope and more time for them to find a job or some other way to make money so they can feel that they are worth something once again.
